Reviewed the 1995 ADB Agriculture Sector Review
and consulted with the Agriculture and Treasury Department on the
strategic issues for the agriculture sector. A strategy for
development of the agriculture sector during 1997 - 2000 was
developed with the management of the Agriculture Department taking
the lead. A series of meetings were held with the senior management
of the Agriculture Department and the Policy and Planning division
of the Treasury Department. |

Detailed Narrative Description of Project:
The Agriculture Sector Strategy entitled
‘Strategy for Growth and Diversification of the Agriculture Sector
1997 - 2000’ was endorsed by the Agriculture and Treasury
Departments for transmission to the Cabinet Development Committee.
The main parameters of the strategy were adopted in the 1997
Statement of Economic Strategy in the section on Agriculture. The
main purpose of the project was to develop a consensus in Government
on strategy for the development of the agriculture sector. The
agreed final version of the Strategy highlighted the strengths of
the agricultural sector which had to be given priority for
investment. The Strategy is to provide the basis for the corporate
planning for the whole Ministry of Agriculture,Forestry, Fisheries
and Meteorology. |
