The consultants carried out consultations with
each of the Forum Countries and then prepared a report for the April
1993 Pacific Island Countries/Development Partners meeting on a
proposed framework to set a strategy for regional development
assistance. A program of action was established for a gradual
development of a regional strategy based in the report submitted. |

Detailed Narrative Description of Project:
The project was prompted by a decision of the
1992 Forum Leaders meeting asking the Forum Secretariat to examine
how the Forum Island Countries could collaborate on a regional
strategy to strengthen their economic development programmes. The
project highlighted a number of diverse needs of each Forum Island
Country which necessitated a long-term gradual development of a
regional strategy. To steer the process the project report
recommended the establishment of a Ministerial Finance and Economic
Committee which would concentrate on operationalising the finance
and economic meetings of the Forum Leaders relating to advancing a
regional strategy for programming of regional development aid. |
