Reviewed the structure of the financial system
and consulted previous economic reports on Western Samoa. A series
of recommendations were made to improve Government and private
sector savings. The research report was to be part of an overall
review of savings in selected Asian and Pacific LDCS. |
|
Detailed Narrative Description of
Project:
The research report was prompted
by the negative savings in Western Samoa which needed to be
addressed if Western Samoa is to improve its growth performance.
ESCAP wanted the country paper to be part of an overall research
paper on savings in the Pacific LDCs. The project highlighted the
high dependence on overseas savings and the limited opportunities in
small island economies to improve the mobilisation of national
savings. |
