Detailed Narrative Description of Project:
Conference was financially supported by NZODA, World
Bank, UNDP, Canadian Government, and British High Commission
Objective was to foster a more transparent financial culture in the
Pacific countries. Greater financial transparency would be achieved by
increasing the flow of information between journalists and the financial
community in the region. The Conference was to give journalists and
financiers an opportunity to explain their professional needs and to
understand the needs of the others. It was to encourage participants to
identify improvements in private sector and public sector accounting and
reporting procedures which would increase transparency. In particular, it
was aimed at fostering a culture which allowed the publication of
information about investment and development discussions which reveal
