Detailed Narrative Description of Project:

The World Trade Organisation’s current negotiations on the Agreement of Agriculture has not considered the impact of agricultural liberalization on small island developing states. The United Nations Centre for Trade and Development (UNCTAD) commissioned three studies for the small island developing states region which are the Indian Ocean, Caribbean and the Pacific Islands.

The Study looked at the issues on vulnerability of the SIDS in terms of trade in agriculture, the marginalisation of preferences, the impact on agricultural from liberalization policies and how the SIDs needs could be accommodated in the modalities to be included in the negotiations of the WTO Agreement on Agriculture.

A presentation of the findings of the study was made at the Workshop commissioned by UNCTAD in Geneva for Small Island Developing States
